Owner Shawn Yoakam opened Southern Flooring in 2001 with the goal of providing the greater Tallahassee area with a trustworthy flooring resource- a place where customers can feel comfortable with their buying decisions. Since that time, Southern Flooring has grown from a three person company to a multi-faceted business with two locations due to loyal customers, Shawn’s hard work and our dedicated staff. In 2006, Southern Flooring began a partnership with Mohawk to become an exclusive Mohawk Floorscapes Dealer, allowing us to offer an even greater array of products at competitive prices.

Jan Austin-Hicken
Jan has been with Southern Flooring since 2008. Jan has helped design several award winning interiors with the Tallahassee Builders Association Parade of Homes. Jan has a wonderful knack of developing high end looks with inexpensive products. Jan grew up in North Carolina in the middle of the furniture and textile industries. She likes to work with tile, especially, because it gives her the opportunity to mix up colors and textures, much like working with textiles. She has been designing since she learned to knit at the age of 8. Want a unique look that’s your own? Come in and ask for Jan.

Mike Money
Mike has been with Southern Flooring over 6 years and brings 16 years of property development experience to our showroom. He simply believes that flooring is fun and there is nowhere else someone can spend so little time and totally change the enjoyability of their home. He has a way of listening to and coming up with ideas that simplify what can seem like a daunting task. It’s not unusual for folks to come in for 30 minutes and complete a look that they’ve been struggling with for months. Mike Makes Flooring Fun!!

Toby VanEsselstine
Hello! I'm Toby VanEsselstine and I have been in the flooring industry since 2016. My goal is to help all my clients from start to finish of the project. I will personally ensure you have the best possible buying and installation experience. When making the choice to do business with me, rest easy knowing I am the right person for the job! In my personal life I enjoy such things as playing drums, collecting sports memorabilia and spending time with my daughter.
Nick Halley
Nick joined Southern Flooring late 2022 and brings a wealth of sales knowledge throughout his career. He has had previous stints in running restaurants, selling homes and even in the cell phone industry. He’s never met a stranger he couldn’t connect with. Being in Tallahassee for 30 years, he considers himself a native and definitely understands the sentiment of Tallahassee only has a couple degrees of separation. In his spare time, he shows and breeds dogs with his wife and 3 daughters. They own Beagles and Great Danes and love to travel to these shows in their 5th wheel and travel the US. He’s going to give you his best price and effort on every job. Finding you the best product at the best price is what he offers to every one of his clients.
